Asset Tracking with RFID - Hands-on Training and Certificate Program
http://winmec.ucla.edu/rfid/TracAsset/
RFID as a discipline has now started to penetrate industries beyond retail including automotive, manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, homeland security, energy, utilities, transportation and logistics, airlines, etc. Each of these industries keeps track of assets that are located at a stationary site or move around. Bar codes are gradually giving way to RFID in the tracking of such assets as RFID allows for automation and increased accuracy.
TracAssetTM is an RFID-assisted asset management and tracking solution. This software will be demonstrated at this forum. The system captures detailed information on each asset (location, department, record creation, cost, warranty period, manufacturer, images and pictures, asset-specific notes). Each asset can be linked to asset-related activities or events which are monitored as per the defined protocol. Any exception to the protocol raises pre-defined alerts.
A limited evaluation copy of the TracAssetTM software will be provided to attendees (subject to attendee signing an agreement) as part of the certificate training program.
The following questions will be discussed:
- What is the business case for the investment in RFID in tracking assets.
- Which RFID technology (readers, middleware, tags) is most appropriate for a given type of asset and storage facility.
- What type of re-engineering of the business processes is required to enable RFID? and,
- How would the integration of the RFID infrastructure with the existing infrastructure be performed (software, hardware) for tracking assets?
Salient features:
- Multiple RFID technologies supported independently or in consort
- Supported by a network of fixed and mobile RFID equipment, which is managed from an administrative console.
- Agnostic to size, material and operational parameters of the asset.
- Unique ID generation - using end-user defined ID structure
- One time ID generation and locking with password protection
- Writing and reading of data to tag (specific to user, business logic, workflow and time-dependent)
- Provides track and trace capability under local-area as well as wide-area network
- Asset and activity linked event logging
Managing:
Manage inter- and intra- department/organization loaning and leasing, maintenance planning, warranty planning, and asset's important spares' inventory
Monitoring:
Monitor asset's home location, temporary location, temporary out-of-home-location time period, movement in conjunction with designated escort, and zoning
Reporting:
- All monitored list of activities or events
- Loaning history
- Maintenance and warranty history
- Exception and alert history
System requirements:
- Windows Vista, XP, Mobile 5.0/6.0
- .NET Framework 3.5, .NET Compact Framework 3.5
- Database Engine - either of
- Microsoft Access 2007, SQL Server Compact 3.5,
- SQL Server 2005, MySQL 5.1
