WinRFID MEDTEST - Medical Device and Facility RF (Radio Frequency) Test and Certification Program, http://winmec.ucla.edu/medtest

The UCLA RFID Healthcare Program http://winmec.ucla.edu/healthcare and UCLA RFID Pharma Program http://winmec.ucla.edu/pharma have launched its WinRFID MEDTEST LAB in UCLA. The lab contains RFID Hardware from dozens of RFID vendors such as Motorola/Symbol, Texas Instruments, Philips/NXP, HP, Intel, Printronix, Intermec, Avery Dennison, Zebra and others (see http://winmec.ucla.edu/rfidlab for details).

Electro-magnetic interference is a phenomenon that may occur between two medical devices that are operating at a given frequency or between an RFID/RF device and a medical device within the hospital. This program will help in the testing and (in the near future) certification of such medical hardware. The program is supported by a host of RFID hardware and the WinRFID middleware software program that allows set up, test, measurement, refinement and analysis of such RFID and RF-enabled medical equipment devices within a hospital.

In addition to testing and certification, this program also offers a modular one-day seminar that will allow medical device and RFID vendors to better understand what the issues are with respect to using RFID and RF devices within a hospital setting, how RFID is used for healthcare, how WinRFID may be used for such testing, what does it mean to use RFID devices in healthcare, and other topics related to the use of RFID in hospitals on patients, equipment, medical devices, assets, inventory and supplies.
